Srikar Bharat has revealed that he asked his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Glenn Maxwell about rotating the strike during the last league game against Delhi Capitals (DC) but Maxwell declined it and said “You Can Finish It Off.”
Srikar Bharat was awarded player of the match in the 56th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, October 8. Bharat batted at number 3 and smashed sensational 78 runs and finished off the game with a six to help RCB clinch the victory by 7 wickets.
Talking to reporters after the match the wicketkeeper-batsman Bharat said that he and Maxwell were having a brief discussion about which areas to target. He stated:
“We and Maxi (Maxwell) were talking about, what are the areas we can target. He said just watch the ball and put your bat on it. That’s exactly what I tried to do,”
Further Srikar Bharat asserted how Maxwell’s words filled him with confidence which helped him finish off the game. Srikar Bharat asserted:
“In the last 3 balls, I asked Maxwell should we take a single, he said no go ahead, you can finish it off. It gave me a lot of confidence. I was focusing on just one ball rather than thinking about too many things. I kept it simple, luckily, pulled it off for my team,”
Communication In The Centre With AB de Villiers Was Pretty Simple – Srikar Bharat
AB de Villiers who was promoted to bat at number 4 had a decent outing as he managed to smash 26 runs at the strike rate of 100. Talking about communication with De Villiers, Bharat said:
“Communication in the centre with AB was pretty simple. He told me to just watch the ball and play accordingly. We were just thinking of building a partnership which will give a good platform for the guys coming up next,”
The wicketkeeper-batsman Bharat was against some deadly pacers of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, talking about playing against them Bharat told it ‘wasn’t a surprising element’ for him. He elaborated:
“Playing pace wasn’t a surprising element. I have played enough cricket for India A, and I am also part of the Team India’s set-up, where we have to face the best bowlers of our country in the nets.”
Bharat also added that it was exciting to face some of the quickest bowlers in IPL 2021. The 28-year-old said:
“I love the ball coming to the bat, it gives me a chance to use the pace and place it, instead of trying to hit it hard. It was really exciting to face Rabada and Nortje.”
