India keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant remains one of the most-talked-about players ahead of IPL 2021. Rishabh Pant has emerged as one of the biggest match-winners for India in recent times across formats and will captain the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming edition to add to the stakes. Meanwhile, former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev has an interesting take on Pant’s chances of leading the Capitals to their maiden title.

Rishabh Pant’s opportunity to captain the Delhi Capitals came along since Shreyas Iyer injured his shoulder during the first ODI against England in Pune. The 23-year old had a mediocre IPL 2020 by his standards; however, he has significantly improved to become a game-changer in limited-overs cricket, as displayed against England. Pant remarked that he feels privileged to lead the Capitals and would do everything in his power to go one step better than last year.

Kapil Dev opined that there remains a 25-26% chance of Rishabh Pant winning the trophy for the Delhi Capitals this year since he feels other leaders are more experienced. The former Indian captain believes that as a new skipper, Pant needs plenty of experience and thinks it’s difficult to go all the way in his first attempt in leading an IPL franchise.

“Yes, there maybe 25-26% chances (of Pant winning the IPL for DC), I don’t think anything more than that because then you’re saying he’s better than the other teams (captains). He’s a new captain, he needs a lot of experience. But it’s a bit difficult to go all the way (in his first attempt as captain),” Kapil told ABP News.

Kapil Dev further said that captaincy is indeed a massive responsibility; hence, it would not be easy for Rishabh Pant. The Haryana Hurricane wishes for the keeper-batsman to play his fearless game; however, Dev wants to see how the weight of responsibilities sits with Pant.

“He has become the captain, what can be more secure than that. But with captaincy comes responsibility, as well. It will not be easy for Pant. I wanted him to continue his fearless game but if management thinks that he can do better as a captain in near future then why not. We’ll have to wait for the result of this responsibility in this season,” he added.
