Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul underwent successful surgery for appendicitis on Monday and ESPN Cricinfo reported an encouraging regarding his IPL participation. KL Rahul is also set to return to the bio-bubble and complete the mandatory quarantine period before linking up with his team. The right-handed batsman could not play the game against the Delhi Capitals.

Hours before Sunday’s game against the Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul complained of severe abdominal pain. After the medical team’s assessment, Punjab Kings’ official Twitter handle stated that the 28-year old has suffered acute appendicitis and has to undergo surgery. He flew to Mumbai immediately on a charter flight from Ahmedabad to have the medical procedure.

KL Rahul underwent laparoscopic appendectomy, a minimally invasive surgery, with the doctors asserting that he would be able to restart all the activities after a week’s rest. The Kings would consult with IPL to know Rahul’s quarantine period and other guidelines to be followed before resuming to play again. He last played on the 30th of April against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, against whom he struck an unbeaten 91.

Similar to IPL 2020, KL Rahul has been in sublime form this year as well and held the Orange Cap for a brief while before it went to Shikhar Dhawan. The Karnataka-born batsman has 331 runs thus far in seven innings at 66.20, keeping a strike rate of 136.21 with four fifties.

Mayank Agarwal captained the Kings against the Capitals on Sunday and remained 99 not out; however, it went in vain as the opposition cruised to victory by seven wickets. Rahul’s all likelihood of joining the franchise back would be a significant boost to the team languishing in the sixth spot in the points table.
