Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan was fined INR 24 lakh for a slow over-rate against Mumbai Indians.

On Thursday, KKR thumped MI by seven wickets at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

But it wasn’t good news for Morgan who was slapped with a hefty fine after the match for breaching the IPL code of conduct.

“As it was the team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan was fined Rs 24 lakh,” an official statement issued by the IPL governing body read. 

The rest of the players from KKR’s playing XI against Mumbai Indians were fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their match fee.

According to the IPL rule 12, “The minimum over rate to be achieved by the fielding Team in Matches shall be as prescribed in the Match Playing Conditions and is 14.11 overs per hour such that, in uninterrupted and undelayed Matches, the 20th over commences within 1 hour and 30 minutes (including time-outs) of the start of the innings (“Minimum Over Rate”).

Earlier this year Morgan was fined for a similar offence when his team failed to maintain the stipulated overs in the given time frame against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai on April 21.

KKR beat MI to move to fourth place in IPL 2021 points table

KKR had a good day in the field as they outsmarted five-time IPL champions Mumbai in all departments to move in the top four on the points table.

After winning the toss, Morgan opted to field first and his bowlers were successful in keeping Rohit Sharma & co under a below-par score as they restricted them for 156/6 despite a brilliant start from MI openers.

KKR opener Venkatesh Iyer carried his form in his second IPL game as he attacked the Mumbai Indians bowlers right from the start to reach his maiden IPL fifty in 25 balls. Rahul Tripathi top-scored with 74 from 42 balls as KKR completed the chase in 15.1 overs to move up to the fourth place with eight points.

KKR will play against CSK in the next match at the same venue on September 26.
