Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Eoin Morgan heaped praise on his bowling attack after they managed to restrict Mumbai Indians (MI) to a decent total before the batsmen chased it down with 29 balls to spare. Morgan was also impressed with Venkatesh Iyer, who scored a fifty in his second match in the IPL.

The KKR side is well and truly back into the IPL 2021 after registering their second consecutive victory. They followed up their 9-wicket win over RCB on Monday with another stomp against MI in Abu Dhabi. A delighted-looking Morgan hoped his side could continue to build on this newfound momentum.

Well, it’s been a long time coming [on KKR’s performance]. Since Baz (McCullum) has taken over last year, the way we have played in the last two games is the way our coach wants us to play. It suits our talent to play this way. The way that we have bowled in both matches has been outstanding.

To hold such a strong MI side to 155 and chase this down gives us confidence. The first two games in this phase have been the template for us to play. There’s only one way for us to in the points table and that is upwards,” Morgan said.

“We’ve been trying to fit Venkatesh Iyer into the XI” – Eoin Morgan

Speaking about their newest opening batsman, Venkatesh Iyer, Morgan was full of praise for the 26-year-old. His pairing at the top alongside Shubman Gill was a masterstroke and has paid dividends in this season so far.

We’ve been trying to fit him [Iyer] into the XI and it has been difficult. Not only the runs he scores but the manner he has scored them in as well. He’s been very imposing at the top of the order and complemented Gill really well. I think it naturally suits him to play in this manner,” Morgan added.

Having quelled the challenges of RCB and MI, KKR will next face off against another powerhouse, Chennai Super Kings, on September 26, Sunday.
