IPL 2021: MS Dhoni Gives Update On Ambati Rayudu's Injury After Victory Against Mumbai Indians

MS Dhoni was in praise for the match-winning knock by Ruturaj Gaikwad, and the late cameo by Dwayne Bravo, which helped the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) reach 156 after being 24/4 against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday in Dubai. CSK registered a 20-run win and now jump to the top of the table.

After seeing wickets fell at the other end, Gaikwad started slowly and then gradually took off as he hit a brilliant half-century. The CSK opener finished with 88 runs off 58 balls with the help of 9 fours and 4 superb sixes. Bravo smashed 23 runs from 8 balls towards the end to propel the score over 150.

MS Dhoni said CSK would have been satisfied even with a total of around 140 after losing early wickets, and were more than happy with 156 on the board.

“I think at 30/4, you want to get something respectable on the board and Ruturaj and Bravo got us more than what we expected. We had to bat exceptionally to get to 140, but to get to 160 was tremendous,” MS Dhoni said at the post-match ceremony.

He talked about the surface being two-paced and tricky for the incoming batsman while emphasizing the importance of a set batter carrying on.

“The wicket was slightly two-paced and slow to start off with. Most of them got out to slower ones. If you come later and you want to go hard and that’s why we lost wickets. I would have tried to get into the eighth or ninth over and then take it from there. You always think you could have gone harder earlier, but with wickets down, it was a risk. There’s always a catch, one batter played till the end and the others contributed well,” he added.

Ambati Rayudu’s innings lasted only 3 balls for 0 runs after he had to return back to the dressing room, retired hurt by a blow on his elbow from a quick delivery by Adam Milne. MS Dhoni said that Rayudu was smiling in the change room, so he believes that the injury isn’t a fracture.

‘It depends on the situation. Rayudu was smiling, so he hasn’t broken his arm. He has four days now and that should help him,” the CSK skipper informed.

CSK face Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on September 24 in Sharjah. Mumbai Indians go to Abu Dhabi to meet Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on September 23.
