Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Moeen Ali was paid Rs 7 crores in the IPL 2021 auction and he is worth every rupee of that big contract he earned. Ali had a Man of the Match performance against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 12th match of the IPL 2021 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

CSK came into this match after winning their last game and so did Rajasthan Royals. However it was CSK and most importantly their captain MS Dhoni who had the last laugh, especially after been asked to bat first after Sanju Samson, RR captain won the toss.

CSK posted 188/9 in 20 overs, with Faf du Plessis top-scoring with 33 runs. Other batsmen contributing to the score were Ambati Rayudu (27), Suresh Raina (26), and Dwayne Bravo (20* in 8 balls). For Rajasthan Royals, Chetan Sakariya took 3/36 and Chris Morris took 2/33.

Chennai Super Kings defended the total with ease, especially the ball didn’t get wet due to the absence of dew, giving MS Dhoni a huge advantage in his 200th game as CSK captain. He masterfully employed Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali who picked wickets with ease and Sam Curran just assisted them beautifully.

Talking about his performance with both the bat and ball, Moeen Ali said that he knows his role with the team and is always ready to perform when the captain calls him.

“My job here is to try and score as many runs for the team and get a good start. When I went up the order, it wasn’t any easy wicket and I’m pleased with both the departments. I thought as a team we played really well and everyone contributed.

Once the left-handers came in I knew I had a good chance of bowling whenever the captain needs me. I feel it’s a good wicket for the spinners and if you land the ball in the right areas you’ve always got a chance,” Ali said after being named the Man of the Match.

Chennai Super Kings will now face Kolkata Knight Riders on April 21 in an evening match in Mumbai.
