Chennai Super Kings opener Faf du Plessis was elated after he helped his side to their fourth IPL title as CSK defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the IPL 202 final on Friday in Dubai. Chasing 193, KKR managed 165 as they collapsed from 91/0 to 125/8.
After being put in to bat first, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis continued their brilliant form with the latter batting through the innings, scoring 86 runs off 59 balls. Quickfire thirties from Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali helped CSK to 192.
This is the third IPL title for Faf du Plessis, who joined CSK in 2011, and played a crucial part in wins in 2018 and 2021. The final was also his 100th game in the IPL.
“That was a great day. 100th IPL game, special day. I loved my time here at CSK, almost 10 years. No 4 in the IPL trophy cabinet is really good,” Faf du Plessis said at the post-match presentation.

Amongst the key contributors in CSK’s title triumph were openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis; the young Indian opener won the Orange Cap, scoring 635 runs, while the South African scored just 2 runs less.
du Plessis was effusive in praise for Gaikwad and reckons the youngster is going to have a bright future.
“Rutu is a special talent. Indian cricket in generally very blessed with young talents. Rutu has got a great head on his shoulders. He has got a great future,” the South African added.
With 4 titles in the bag, CSK now are just one trophy behind Mumbai Indians; it is to remember that CSK have played two seasons less the MI.
