Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by runs to claim their fourth title in IPL history. The final was played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday where MS Dhoni and co. came out trumps.

Kolkata suffered a tremendous collapse after another fabulous start from their openers. Set a target of 193 in the final, Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer took the attack to the Chennai bowlers. They put up a 91-run stand for the first wicket, with Iyer scoring his fourth fifty of the second leg.

The moment he was dismissed by Shardul Thakur, things started going awry for KKR. Seven wickets fell in the next six overs for just 32 runs which derailed the run chase. Apart from Iyer and Gill, no other batsman managed to get into double figures, summing up Kolkata’s poor middle-order this season.

Shardul Thakur celebrated his call-up to the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup with a wonderful spell. He ended the night with figures of 3/38 in his quota of four overs, and he was ably supported by the Aussie pacer, Josh Hazlewood, who chipped in with a couple of wickets.

Earlier, it was the opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis who provided a platform for the rest of the batsmen. They maintained their momentum throughout the innings, even after Gaikwad fell. Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali played fine cameos while Du Plessis scored 86 off 59 balls.

Eventually, they put up 192 on the board which turned out to be a mountain too steep to climb for the Kolkata franchise. Chennai went on to improve their finals record, claiming their fourth title in nine finals. It was also KKR’s first defeat in the grand finals of the IPL.

Here’s how Twitter hailed Chennai Super Kings’ crushing win over KKR in the final:
