Punjab Kings’ promising campaign of last year ended as they could not win their final league match, needing to do so to qualify for the playoffs. The finalists of the 2014 edition struggled for the most part of the tournament; however, they won five matches on the trot to give themselves a real chance of pulling off a remarkable comeback. KL Rahul, who will continue to lead the side, earned the Orange Cap as he mustered 670 runs in 14 matches at 55.83 with five fifties and a century. They finished at the 6th spot last year.

Punjab Kings were also one of the busiest franchises in the IPL 2021 auction as they created some million-dollar men amongst the eight players they bought. Australia’s pacers in Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith were the costliest, fetching INR 14 and eight crores, respectively. Shahrukh Khan and Moises Henriques also went for INR 5.25 and 4.20 crores, respectively. The other cricketers bought were Dawid Malan, Jalaj Saxena, and Utkarsh Singh.
