Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has said that he is baffled with the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) franchise Rajasthan Royals. Royals are currently placed 6th on the points table in the tournament with 4 wins from 9 matches and 8 points to their name. One of the reasons for their misfortunes, as per Manjrekar is their overreliance on England players.

Rajasthan Royals had three England players who formed the crux of their team with Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Jos Buttler carrying the team in the previous three seasons and now their absence has come to haunt them in the second half of the IPL 2021.

Stokes has taken a break from cricket for mental health, while Archer is also dealing with his right elbow injuries which have led to him being ruled out of cricket for the rest of 2021. Both the players will miss the T20 World Cup 2021. Jos Buttler, on the other hand, has taken a break to be with his newborn daughter before the ICC event and the Ashes 2021-22 in Australia which follows next.

Rajasthan Royals, A Franchise That Frustrates Me: Sanjay Manjrekar

Manjrekar opined that there is a high amount of uncertainty about availability when it comes to England players.

“Rajasthan, a franchise that frustrates me. A franchise that I know the people who run. But somehow, their inclination to go for the English players is letting them down a little bit. Because they have become very uncertain with their availability,” Sanjay Manjrekar said on Instagram (presented by Dafa News).

Not only these three, but Rajasthan Royals had missed Liam Livingstone for the first half of the IPL 2021 as he had returned home as India was battered by the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Most of the main England players are not available for the franchises for the second leg of the IPL 2021. Dawid Malan, Chris Woakes, and Jonny Bairstow had pulled out of the league just before the commencement of the UAE leg citing personal reasons.

They will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai on September 27, 2021.
