Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) fast bowler Arshdeep Singh sent Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Saurabh Tiwary into the land of pain after his erratic throw in trying to keep the batter inside his crease, ended up hitting the left-hander right on the box in their Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) encounter in Abu Dhabi on September 28, 2021.
The 42nd match of the IPL 2021 saw defending champions Mumbai Indians clashing with Punjab Kings as both the teams had a virtual must-win situation with them. MI in the 7th spot in the points table needs to win all of their remaining matches to be in contention for the playoffs thanks to their poor net run rate.
KL Rahul’s PBKS are also on the same boat despite being 5th on the points table and a better net run rate when compared to MI. Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first in Abu Dhabi and announced two changes to his playing XI with Saurabh Tiwary replacing Ishan Kishan and Nathan Coulter-Nile replacing Adam Milne. PBKS also brought in Mandeep Singh for Mayank Agarwal who was out due to a stiff neck.
MI bowlers did well to restrict PBKS to 135/6 which they posted in 20 overs thanks to Aiden Markram’s 42 and Deepak Hooda’s 28, while KL Rahul made 21 runs. Kieron Pollard took 2/8, while Bumrah scalped two wickets for 24 runs.
Saurabh Tiwary Gets Hit Right On The Box By Arshdeep Singh’s Throw And Goes Down For The Count
Punjab King’s leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi hurt Mumbai Indians badly as he removed captain Rohit Sharma for 8 runs and then took care of the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav, whose bad form continued, as he made a first-ball duck.
However, Quinton de Kock made 27 runs to keep Mumbai Indians in the hunt, but Mohammad Shami castled him putting the defending champions in a bit of pickle. Then Saurabh Tiwary, who has been in decent form with the bat, came out and started constantly making runs from one end as Hardik Pandya remained at the other.
However, Tiwary was felled by Arshdeep Singh but in a bizarre way. On the 4th ball of the 12th over, Tiwary padded back a straight ball from the left-arm seamer from Punjab back to him. Arshdeep, seeing that Saurabh was a couple of feet out of his crease, decided to throw the ball at the stumps.
Unfortunately for Tiwary, Arshdeep’s throw came towards his unmentionables like a heat-seeking missile and hit him square on the box, leading the burly left-hander to go down for the count as the Kings players and the Mumbai physio converged around him. He was fine after a few minutes and was back on his feet to continue his innings.
