Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, Eoin Morgan’s innings was cut short by a terrific catch from Chennai Super Kings fielder Faf du Plessis near the boundary line at long-off in their encounter in Match 38 of the IPL 2021 in Abu Dhabi.
On the first ball of the 10th over, Morgan, who had been struggling till then for his 8 runs off 13 balls, mistimed a Josh Hazlewood short delivery towards the long-on fence where Faf du Plessis was stationed.
As the ball was about to go over the boundary line, the South African grabbed it and lobbed it back in the playing field; he jumped outside and quickly returned inside the line to pouch it while making sure that his leg didn’t touch the fence. An incredible self-relay take from Faf du Plessis saw the third wicket fell for KKR.
CSK gain upper hand over KKR
Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first in Abu Dhabi. Shubman Gill started off with a couple of boundaries against Deepak Chahar before getting involved in a mix-up with Venkatesh Iyer and getting run out on the last ball of the first over.
Iyer struck three boundaries of his own before Shardul Thakur removed him in a wicket-maiden to end KKR’s powerplay at 50/2.
While the KKR skipper struggled at one end, Rahul Tripathi continued in his attacking form from the previous match against Mumbai Indians.
After Morgan’s dismissal, he got out in the 13th over, bowled by Ravindra Jadeja while failing to nail his reverse sweep. KKR are in a spot of both at 93/4 after 13 overs, but do have the fire-power in their batting for a late flourish.
