Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Sunil Narine had a memorable night versus the Royal Challengers Bangalore as he rumbled through their batting order, taking the three big wickets of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Glenn Maxwell.

While Kohli and Maxwell missed their slogs, Sunil Narine utterly bamboozled de Villiers with a brilliant delivery. On the second ball of the 15th over of RCB’s innings, Sunil Narine castled the South African with a peach.

A 92.6 kph full off-break which shaped slightly away, brought de Villiers on the front foot, who looked to work it on the leg side. The ball, though, spun in sharply, beating the batsman on the inside edge, and nicked off the pad through to the stumps. A jaffa was needed to dismiss a batsman of de Villiers’s quality, and Sunil Narine produced that.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Virat Kohli made his intentions clear, stroking three fours in the first two overs. Devdutt Padikkal then took two boundaries off Lockie Ferguson.

Mavi leaked 13 runs in the fifth over. But Lockie Ferguson, in the sixth over, dismissed Padikkal(21 off 18), who edged a fast delivery onto his stumps. RCB capped off the powerplay at 53/1.

KKR spinners further squeezed RCB’s innings with four boundaryless overs, during which Kohli survived a run-out and KS Bharat was given a life by Dinesh Karthik with a missed stumping.

Sunil Narine struck in the 10th over with the wicket of Bharat, who holed out to long-off, scoring 9 runs off 16 balls. RCB reached 70/2 at the 10-over mark and needed their three star batsmen to take them to a defendable total. However, it was Narine who was standing in their way.

Narine struck with gold in the 13th over, castling Kohli (39 off 33), who missed a slog sweep. Two overs later, Narine bowled AB de Villiers as well, massively denting RCB’s chances of reaching 160. In the 17th, the West Indian spinner also got rid of Maxwell. At the time of writing, RCB are 113/5 at the 17-over mark.
