Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Jason Holder was adjudged as Man of the Match award despite ending up on the losing side against Punjab Kings at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. This illustrates his all-round brilliance on the field on Saturday evening.

SRH conceded a 5-run loss in a low-scoring thriller while failing to chase 126. Jason Holder’s valiant knock of 47 unbeaten runs off 29 balls, which had come after he had dented PBKS’ batting with a three-wicket haul, went in vain.

The lanky West Indian said the SRH batters left too much to do for the end, but he showed confidence in his ability to gun the target down.

“Tough loss. At the halfway mark, needing 126, you obviously back yourselves to chase it. We probably left a little too much to get at the end although I did back myself to get those,” Jason Holder said at the post-match press conference.

Despite the pitch proving challenging to bat on for a new batsman, and with wickets falling at the other end, Jason Holder went after the Punjab bowlers, clattering three sixes at the start of his innings, including one off Ravi Bishnoi who was making the SRH batters dance on his tune.

He would hit a couple more maximums towards the end and managed to keep the game alive till the last ball, when, with 7 needed off 1, he mistimed the slower delivery from Nathan Ellis.

“The stage where I came in, I just had to go for it and it worked. Maybe that’s why it worked. Batters probably weren’t too committal earlier on. Five more games left, need to build some momentum for next season. Fans have been really passionate, we need to keep going for them,” the all-rounder added.

With just one win in 9 matches, SRH are effectively out of the competition for a playoff berth. They would next take on Rajasthan Royals in Dubai on Monday.
