Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman, Robin Uthappa, praised his skipper, MS Dhoni after the latter guided the side to their 9th IPL final. CSK defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 4 wickets in Qualifier 1 on Sunday.

It was a topsy-turvy game throughout, with both sides wrestling for control in the middle overs. DC’s target of 173 seemed to be proving a mountain too steep to climb. Eventually, the equation boiled down to 13 off the last over with Dhoni in the middle for CSK.

The 40-year-old took Tom Curran to the cleaners, smashing three boundaries, including the winning hit to help his side to a 4-wicket victory with two balls to spare. Speaking about the last few moments, Uthappa said:

You can never write off someone like MS Dhoni at that situation in the biggest stage. He is the best there was, and I think the best there is. He is the man you want in that kind of situation.”

When the opportunity came, I knew I had to be true to myself – Robin Uthappa

The experienced batsman Uthappa, played a huge role in CSK’s run chase. He, along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, stitched a 110-run second-wicket partnership that put Chennai in the driver’s seat. There was a late fumble from the 3-time champions but Dhoni settled the nerves in the final over.

The focus was completely on the game. I’ve been sitting out for like 10-11 games, so always wanted to contribute to the team. When the opportunity came along, I knew that I had to be true to myself. When I came out to bat, my only thought process was to stitch a good partnership. I think if not for that little niggle, I think we would have finished it off,” Uthappa mentioned.

CSK now has a four-day gap with respect to the finals in Dubai. As for Delhi, they await the winner of the Eliminator between RCB and KKR which will take place in Sharjah tonight.
