Australia batsman and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner lauded the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman AB de Villiers after his masterclass in the RCB vs Delhi Capitals (DC) encounter on April 27, 2021, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera Ahmedabad.

Delhi Capitals are coming into this game after a super over win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, while RCB had their winning streak smashed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as the Virat Kohli-led team lost their first match in the IPL 2021 after four wins by 69 runs thanks to some Ravindra Jadeja magic.

DC captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first keeping in mind the dew that comes later in the night. RCB openers Devdutt Padikkal (17) and Virat Kohli (17) fell in consecutive balls to Ishant Sharma and Avesh Khan respectively after adding 30 runs for the first wicket. Rajat Patidar (31, 2 sixes) and Glenn Maxwell (25, 1 four, and 2 sixes) tried to steady the ship, but fell to Akshar Patel and Amit Mishra respectively, leaving RCB 114/5 in 15 overs.

AB De Villiers Comes To The Rescue Of RCB And Completes 5,000 IPL Runs In Process

It was now up to the RCB’s savior AB de Villiers to take them to a decent total and that he did. He took calculated risks against the best DC bowlers that Rishabh Pant employed and reached his half-century in 33 balls and during the same process, completed 5,000 runs in the Indian Premier League as well.

He is the only batsman to complete 5,000 IPL runs with a strike rate of 150 or more and he also averages over 40. He is only the second overseas batsman to reach the 5000 IPL runs milestone after Australia’s David Warner.

AB de Villiers stayed unbeaten as RCB made 171/5 in 20 overs. He made 75* in 42 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours. He took 23 runs off the last over of the innings, bowled by Marcus Stoinis.

His inning was one of pure class as he single-handedly gave some total to defend for the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers against a potent DC batting lineup. He did receive unanimous praise on social media for his knock and David Warner was one of those applauding his innings.

“Legend @ABdeVilliers17 my idol ??,” posted David Warner on Twitter.
