SUN TV, the owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), have donated a hefty sum of Rs 30 crores towards India’s fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic’s second wave.
The SUN TV owners have donated the amount to relief work being undertaken by the state and central governments along with various NGOs. India is battling a devastating health crisis in the second wave of the global pandemic, which is currently causing over 4,000 daily deaths.

India is reporting over 4 lakh COVID-19 cases for the last few days and the health infrastructure is struggling to cope with the crisis, failing to provide oxygen and crucial medicines to the infected patients.

The Indian government has chosen to roll out vaccines to everyone aged 18 or above, although the nation is reportedly running out of Covid-19 vaccines as the government had set plans in place for mass drives.
The COVID-19 pandemic had also led to the postponement of the IPL 2021 season after 29 matches were played. This was due to multiple players, coaches, and several other support staff members testing positive for the Coronavirus. This left the BCCI and IPL governing council with no choice but to halt the tournament indefinitely.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise took to Twitter to share a statement on their donation towards India’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Sun TV Network is donating a sum of Rs 30 crore to provide relief to those affected by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sunrisers Hyderabad said in a statement posted on their Twitter handle.
The Hyderabad-based franchise also attached a statement that reads, “Sun TV network is donating a sum of Rs.30 crores to provide relief to those affected by the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.T his will be spent on several initiatives currently under way at various states of India including the following:
Donations to the various programs initiated by Government of India and stategovernments
2. Partnering with NGOs that are providing oxygen cylinders, medicines etc.
In addition, the company will leverage its resources including all its media assets to spread greater awareness among millions of our TV viewing audiences across India and rest of the world.”

Apart from SRH, IPL franchises Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) had also contributed 7.5 crores and 1.5 crores respectively, while the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) arranged the supply of 450 oxygen concentrators for the affected patients in Tamil Nadu.
