Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan feels that the talent scouting done by Mumbai Indians (MI) is best among all the franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Mumbai Indians is the most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As they have won the IPL trophy 5 times, they started their championship-winning journey in 2013 and won the cup in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. However, many expected that Mumbai Indians will complete the hat-trick of winning championships but unfortunately they were unable to make it into the playoffs stage of IPL 2021.
During a discussion on Star Sports, Irfan Pathan told other Indian Premier League (IPL) franchisees should learn from Mumbai Indians (MI) how to build a strong lineup. He stated:
“Their scouting is best among all the franchises. The other franchises need to learn from the Mumbai Indians how to build a team. No other franchise does as many mock auctions as the Mumbai Indians. They choose players who no one has heard about. They go into a lot of detail.”
Former Indian all-rounder believes that Mumbai Indians scout for young talented cricketers and turn them into big players. Irfan Pathan elaborated:
“No one knew the left-arm bowler from South Africa, Marco Jansen, but they had aimed to get him. If someone aimed to get Hardik Pandya, it was the Mumbai Indians when not many people knew about him, we are talking about 2013. You can talk about Rahul Chahar. They play a punt on young batters and bowlers, give them the confidence and make them big players. And they get to win after that.”
Six Players From Mumbai Indians (MI) Are Part Of India’s T20 World Cup Team – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra highlighted that team Mumbai Indians have a large pool of talented cricketers and they contributed the most numbers of players for India’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad. Chopra said:
“If you take this team, there is Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah. The eleven which were playing, it had five Indian players and Rahul Chahar was sitting out. So six players from this team are part of India’s T20 World Cup team.”
Further, Chopra labelled Mumbai Indians as the “best T20 team of this planet” and opined they can win a 5-match series against a national team. The cricketer-turned-commentator asserted:
“In my opinion, whatever this season might have been, this is the best T20 team on this planet when you talk about franchise cricket. You will not get a better team than them, who does so well consistently and they will defeat a national team if you get them to play five matches against them.”
