IPL 2021: Twitter Erupts As MS Dhoni's Last-Over Heroics Take CSK Past DC And Into The Finals

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni pulled off vintage heroics in the final over against Delhi Capitals (DC) to take his side into the finals for the 9th time in IPL history. He scored 13 off the last over bowled by Tom Curran to help CSK beat DC by 4 wickets in Qualifier 1.

Chasing 173, Chennai got off to a terrible start. They lost their top run-scorer, Faf du Plessis, in the very first over to Anrich Nortje. What followed was a brilliant partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa. The latter played the role of the aggressor to perfection.

They built a 110-run stand for the second wicket before Uthappa fell for 63 off 44 balls. A quick flurry of wickets followed and Chennai suddenly found themselves in a spot of bother in a relatively simple run chase. When Gaikwad got out in the 19th over, things seemed to be slipping out of hand.

However, Dhoni walked in with intent and took the attack on. He scored a brilliant six off Avesh Khan in the penultimate over to reduce the equation to 13 off 6. Although Moeen Ali fell on the first delivery of the last over, Dhoni completed the win by hitting three boundaries off Curran.

Earlier, Prithvi Shaw set an excellent platform for the Delhi Capitals. He did the majority of the scoring in the first 10 overs but perished for 60 when the team needed him to keep going. Skipper, Rishabh Pant, then combined with Shimron Hetmyer to resurrect the innings.

They scored at a quick rate, with Pant even getting to his first fifty of the second leg of IPL 2021. Unfortunately, the total wasn’t enough in the end but DC have another chance in Qualifier 2, where they will face the winner of tomorrow’s eliminator between RCB and KKR.
