Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a scintillating maiden century in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) which was played in Abu Dhabi on October 2, 2021. Twitterverse was all praises for the right-hander for his amazing knock which earned him the Orange Cap for most runs in the ongoing tournament as well.

Chennai Super Kings came into this match already having qualified for the playoffs of the IPL 2021 tournament, having beaten the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their previous match. On the other hand, the Rajasthan Royals were in dire need of a win especially after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated them in Dubai.

This was a special occasion for MS Dhoni, as it was his 200th match in the IPL as captain of the Chennai Super Kings, becoming the first cricketer to do so. Unfortunately, he didn’t win the toss as Sanju Samson of RR called right and decided to bowl first on this Abu Dhabi pitch.

Rajasthan made insanely five changes to their playing XI dropping Mahipal Lomror, Liam Livingstone, Riyan Parag, Kartik Tyagi, and Chris Morris, and brought in Shivam Dube, Glenn Phillips, Akash Singh, David Miller, and Mayank Markande. CSK made two changes as Sam Curran came in for Dwayne Bravo and KM Asif came in for Deepak Chahar.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Becomes The Youngest CSK Batter To Score A Century In Indian Premier League

Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in tremendous form for the Chennai-based IPL franchise both the last season and this season as well. Though he has started off slowly in every match, he has managed to up the ante when needed and a similar thing was on display in this match against RR.

He played the backseat role as Faf du Plessis (25), Moeen Ali (22) and then Ravindra Jadeja (32* in 15 balls, with 4 fours and one six) took CSK to a final total of 189/4. Ruturaj, on the other hand, bided his time as he reached his half-century in 43 balls with 6 fours to his name.

Just when it looked like CSK would end up with a below-par score, Gaikwad and Jadeja pummeled the RR bowling lineup and Ruturaj was particularly brutal as he reached his century on the last ball of the CSK innings, taking just 17 balls more to 100. He hit a total of 9 fours and 5 sixes.

The Twitterverse went crazy as Ruturaj broke the record of the youngest Chennai Super Kings batter to score a century in IPL, previously held by Murali Vijay.
