The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 battle for the qualification between Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) commenced at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, October 5. Notably, Mumbai Indians won the game by 8 wickets with 70 balls remaining.

Rajasthan Royals were entering the match with more momentum with a win their last game dominantly against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, Mumbai Indians faced a defeat against table-toppers Delhi Capitals (DC) in their last game.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians won the toss and invited Rajasthan Royals to bat first. Mumbai Indians made two big changes in playing XI, dropping opener Quinton de Kock and all-rounder Krunal Pandya and adding Ishan Kishan and James Neesham to the team. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals added Shreyas Gopal in place of Mayank Markande and Kuldip Yadav in place of Akash Singh.

Losing the toss and batting first, Team Rajasthan Royals had a horrible outing. The in-form opening duo of Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal only managed to add 27 runs for the first wicket, before Yashasvi Jaiswal lost his wicket against Nathan Coulter-Nile.

After that Evin Lewis was also sent back to the pavilion by Jasprit Bumrah in the 6th over. Meanwhile, Captain Sanju Samson and all-rounder Shivam Dube contribute 3 runs each for the team. Overseas players Glenn Phillips and David Miller didn’t reach expectations. In the end, Mustafizur Rahman smashed a six in the last over and helped Rajasthan Royals post 90 runs on the board at the loss of 9 wickets.

Nathan Coulter-Nile was the star performer of the Mumbai Indians bowling unit. As he bagged 4 wickets. Also, James Neesham and Jasprit Bumrah picked 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

Chasing the target, Rohit Sharma was off to a flying start but Ishan Kishan wasn’t firing. Rohit Sharma smashed 14 runs in the first over and Chetan Sakariya bowled a maiden over against Ishan Kishan.

After playing some really good strokes Rohit was dismissed by Chetan Sakariya at the score of 22. Suryakumar Yadav smashed some fours but got out after scoring 13.

However, wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan batted exceptionally well, smashing a fifty and leading the team towards a victory to bag 2 crucial points.
