Apart from his captaincy, which needs no introduction, MS Dhoni is also known for his witty remarks; his casual, informal way of addressing and interacting with his players.

On Sunday, against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, when Ravindra Jadeja was showcasing his elite all-rounder performance, the Chennai Super Kings skipper who has been in a jolly mood these days considering his side’s brilliant performances, didn’t hold himself back to let out a funny remark.

CSK posted a mammoth total of 191, on a tacky Wankhede surface, on the back of a sublime half-century by Faf du Plessis and a thunderous assault in the last over by Jadeja where he picked 36 runs – 37 total – off the bat from Harshal Patel.

In reply, RCB’s revered batting order crumbled; with the wicket of AB de Villiers on the first ball of the 11th over, bowled by Jadeja, RCB’s challenge was effectively done and dusted. However, the formalities still had to be made. And walked in Harshal Patel at number 8.

As Patel entered, MS Dhoni was quick to tell Jadeja that they cannot converse in Hindi now as Patel would understand it – before the all-rounder, de Villiers and Kyle Jamieson were at the crease batting together, and hence the CSK skipper could instruct his bowlers in Hindi the plans to bowl to them.

“Ab Hindi me nahi bol sakta hun,” MS Dhoni told Jadeja.

The keeper’s humorous remark was caught on the stump mic, which ensued laughter in the commentary box. Even both Suresh Raina, who was standing in the slip, and Jadeja couldn’t help but laugh, while MS Dhoni had a smirk on his face.

Jadeja somebody who can change the game on his own: MS Dhoni

Ravindra Jadeja’s performance in isolation on Sunday against RCB was one of the greatest all-round shows in the IPL. He catapulted CSK’s score to 191 with his late blitz of 62 runs off 28 deliveries while being promoted ahead of MS Dhoni, who was effusive in praise of the all-rounder.

He picked 3 wickets as well, including that of de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell; the icing on the cake was a customary Jadeja run-out dismissing Daniel Christian. With their fourth win in five matches, CSK replaces RCB at top of the table. They have completed their Mumbai leg and will move to Delhi to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday.

“He’s (Jadeja) somebody who can change the game on his own and we have seen that significant change with the bat and in the bowling as well. It’s good to give him that extra opportunity, the extra few balls where he can express himself.

“It’s also important that the individual grabs the chance when you take a decision like that and he’s done that so far,” MS Dhoni heaped praise on his superstar all-rounder.
