A ball after Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli walked back to the pavilion, Ishant Sharma disturbed Devdutt Padikkal’s stumps to give the Delhi Capitals the required start. Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli handed the Royal Challengers an assured start. However, Avesh Khan and Ishant Sharma thwarted their plans, with the latter enjoying success in his first match of IPL 2021.

Devdutt Padikkal’s dismissal occurred in the first ball of the fifth over; however, it was Ishant Sharma setting the left-hander in his previous over that was significant. The right-arm seamer kept bowling the balls that went away and fired the one coming in. The delivery struck the top of off stump, leaving Padikkal stunned. The youngster had to leave the ground for 12 off 11 balls, laced with two boundaries.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals’ captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to field first. Ishant Sharma, who took Devdutt Padikkal’s wicket, justified his inclusion in place of Ravichandran Ashwin. In contrast, the Royal Challengers Bangalore carried out two changes, drafting Daniel Sams for Daniel Christian and dropping Navdeep Saini for Rajat Patidar. Delhi and Bangalore have occupied the second and third spot respectively in the points table and have the opportunity to go at the top by winning today.
