Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell provided the pyrotechnics and kept his side in the game before Sam Curran castled him by dislodging his leg stump. Andre Russell blasted a 21-ball half-century after Deepak Chahar thwarted Kolkata Knight Riders with his four wickets. Nevertheless, Sam Curran ended their hopes by claiming Russell’s wicket.

Andre Russell had been on fire as he resurrected the Knight Riders’ hopes by dishing out a few lusty blows and stitching a breezy 81-run stand with Dinesh Karthik. With Shardul Thakur’s first over going for 24 and Ravindra Jadeja also going for runs, MS Dhoni decided to bring Sam Curran into the attack. Curran’s second ball of his second over stunned Russell, who smashed three fours and six sixes, as he offered no shot to a ball that eventually clipped the leg stump.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings blasted 220 off 20 overs after losing the toss, thanks to half-centuries from Faf Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Moeen Ali and MS Dhoni also came up with impactful cameos to help the yellow army to an imposing total. But Deepak Chahar started the Super Kings’ defence brilliantly by claiming four wickets, dismissing Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan, and Sunil Narine.
