Chennai Super Kings talisman Suresh Raina returned to their colours and scored a brisk half-century on Saturday in their IPL 2021 season opener against the Delhi Capitals. Though Suresh Raina’s innings went in vain as the Capitals chased 189 with seven wickets to spare, the southpaw showed that he still possesses the golden touch, despite having not played professional cricket for quite some time. Raina stated that wearing the yellow jersey has always been a matter of pride.

Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni have been the bedrock of Chennai Super Kings since the inception of IPL. The iconic pair has shared several match-winning partnerships for the yellow army and have been significant to their three title victories so far. Raina is also amongst the highest run-getters in IPL history, making 5422 runs and sits second to Virat Kohli.

Suresh Raina revealed that he feels thrilled to be back with MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings, alongside contributing to the side that has done so much for its players. According to Raina, wearing the Super Kings’ jersey is a matter of pride and he has cherished all his life.

It feels amazing to be back with MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings. It is always good to contribute to a side that has done so much for the players, who have done so much for every person. It is always good to be back and wear this yellow colour, it’s a pride that I have cherished all my life,” Raina said as quoted by Times of India.

Suresh Raina claimed that while it was disappointing to lose the game, it was good to be back to playing for the three-time champions. The 34-year old opined that 15-20 runs more would have done the trick and felt that Chennai bowled well in the middle overs. Raina said that they would have some practice sessions in the next few days to determine where they went wrong.

“A bit disappointed to lose the game, it could have been better, but like I said, it’s always good to come back and do the Whistle Podu. It could have been much better if we would have scored 15-20 runs more but I think we bowled better in the middle overs, in the next few days we will have some good practice sessions where we can learn what to do better,” he added.
