Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had won the toss & elected to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chennai. LSG made a tactical change as they brought in Yash Thakur in place of Jaydev Unadkat. MS Dhoni astonishingly named an unchanged playing 11 despite losing against Gujarat Titans (GT). CSK fans would be thrilled after seeing MS Dhoni after 4 years at the home ground.

Ruturaj Gaikwad & Devon Conway got CSK to a flyer as they stitched a partnership of 110 runs in 9.1 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed yet another half-century & was toying with the bowlers. It looked as if the message from the dugout to the batters was to go berserk from the start.

LSG skipper KL Rahul was quite clueless as all the bowlers were taken to the cleaners except the leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi who took 3 wickets & gave away 28 runs in his 4-over spell. LSG would rue the fact that they gave away 79 runs in the power-play overs which is unacceptable in modern cricket.

MS Dhoni had come into the bat after the dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja in the 20th over. The crowd erupted in joy when they saw their skipper MS Dhoni walk in to bat. On the very first ball, MS Dhoni smashed a gigantic six over the third man as Mark Wood bowled a wide-length delivery on the off-stump.

Mark Wood then bowled a lethal short ball outside-off stump & it seemed as if Dhoni was anticipating it, as he was deep into his crease & played the pull shot to the deep square leg. Mark Wood was shell-shocked.

MS Dhoni went for another big hit on the 4th delivery of the over but was caught at deep cover by Ravi Bishnoi. CSK’s score at that time was 215-7 in 19.4 overs. It won’t be wrong to say that the two hits of MS Dhoni were the highlight of CSK’s innings as smashing Mark Wood is never easy as he not only has got sheer pace but has good control as well.

Uphill road ahead for LSG

LSG will require a helluva effort to chase this target as there are chances that the pitch may slow down in their run chase. The onus would be on KL Rahul to give the team a rollicking start in this steep run chase. It won’t be a surprise if Marcus Stoinis gets promoted to the No.3 position as chasing more than 10 runs per over is never easy.

Given the way Ravi Bishnoi performed, skipper MS Dhoni would bring the right-arm off-spinner Moeen Ali for a couple of overs as he has got good variations & can be the partnership breaker. CSK would be backing themselves to defend this target as defeating them at Chennai is quite tough.
