Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are currently locking horns in the 6th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The visitors’ skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to field first.

However, his decision to bowl first has backfired as CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway came out all guns blazing and smashed LSG bowlers all over the park. The duo stitched 110 runs opening partnership for the opening wicket and gave their team a rollicking start.

Gaikwad, who scored a blistering 92-run knock in the first match, continued his fine form and smashed his second consecutive half-century of the season. Both the openers were going great guns and a superlative effort was needed to stop the run flow and to the LSG’s delight, Mark Wood did exactly that.

The English pacer took a stunner to send Gaikwad packing for 57 runs. It was during the 10th over of the innings when LSG spinner Ravi Bishnoi bowled a flighted delivery, the right-hander tried to take it on but got the leading edge and the ball flew toward the short third man area. Mark Wood, who was stationed at that position leaped up in time and gobbled a terrific catch.

Notably, after Gaikwad’s wicket, his opening partner Conway was too back in the hut, leaving CSK at 120/2 at the time of writing this piece.
