Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif was impressed with Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Ishan Kishan playing a match-winning knock in the 46th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Punjab Kings (PBKS). He believes that keeper-batter scoring runs–is a great sign for the team going forward.

Ishan Kishan gave a befitting reply to all the critics with his brutal knock against Punjab Kings. The keeper batter was under the scanner for his low string of scores but when it mattered, he played a stunner to take his side to their fifth win of the season.

Chasing the target of 215 runs, Ishan Kishan was patient in the start but in no time he unleashed himself and was at his brutal best. The keeper batter smashed PBKS bowlers all over the park and made them dance to their tunes. He made sure that his side is right there in the game while chasing a big target.

Ishan Kishan ended with the knock of 75 runs in 41 balls and took his team close to the target. He batted with a strike rate of 182.93 and smashed 7 fours and 4 sixes before he was caught in the 17th over.

Mohammad Kaif was in awe of Ishan Kishan’s knock and said that he didn’t play an impactful knock in the league but now the team will gain a lot of confidence from his heroics.

Speaking on Star Sports, he said: “These are great signs for the Mumbai Indians for the upcoming matches that run came from his bat because he hadn’t scored too many runs thus far. He hadn’t played an impactful knock. Mumbai Indians will gain a lot from this knock.”

Mohammad Kaif further pointed out that Ishan Kishan did struggle in his innings but looked inflow after that.

He elaborated further: “He got slightly stuck at the start. He opened his arms once Rishi Dhawan’s spell was over. The leg side is his strong area and he targeted straight down the ground as well. So he stuck to his game. He looked in his flow after a long time.”

Mumbai Indians (MI) will be next seen in action when they will take on their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday (6th May).
