After electing to bat first Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted a mammoth score of 223-3. Devon Conway & Ruturaj Gaikwad were involved in a massive opening partnership of 141 runs in 14.3 overs. CSK’s management showed faith in Ambati Rayudu who so far has had a forgettable IPL 2023. Ambati Rayudu‘s services weren’t needed as this time skipper MS Dhoni promoted himself up the order.

Devon Conway paced his innings next to perfection as he scored 87 runs in 52 balls and struck 11 fours and 3 sixes. The crafty left-handed batter used the crease quite smartly and played a lot of innovative shots in his knock.

It seemed as if Ruturaj Gaikwad was in beast mode who scored 79 runs in 50 balls and struck 7 huge sixes and 3 fours. DC’s bowlers had a forgettable outing as all the bowlers were taken to the cleaners on a batting-friendly track.

Ambati Rayudu takes a screamer

Prithvi Shaw came as an impact player during the run chase. At the end of 1 over, DC’s score was 5 for the loss of no wicket. Tushar Deshpande was bowling the 2nd over, on the 3rd delivery Prithvi Shaw tried to clear the mid-off fielder but Ambati Rayudu moved to his right and took a stunning flying catch.

Prithvi Shaw would be utterly disappointed as he should have shown some resistance. Before the 3rd delivery, MS Dhoni had put a fielder at long on and forced Prithvi Shaw to play a lofted shot. Prithvi Shaw was dismissed on 5 runs in 7 balls and DC’s score at 1.3 overs was 5-1 in 1.3 overs.

Crucial Phase for DC

DC skipper David Warner will have to play an attacking brand of cricket in the powerplay overs as the side already requires more than 11 runs per over which is by no means an easy task in modern cricket. The role of Philip Salt would be pivotal as he has got a wide range of shots.

There are chances that the pitch might deteriorate as CSK have got quality spinners present in the form of Ravindra Jadeja & Moeen Ali. Skipper MS Dhoni might consider giving an over to the spinner in the powerplay overs.
