Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Nitish Rana has expressed his disappointment over his failure to score big after his team’s 4-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals on Thursday (April 20).

KKR suffered their third successive loss and fourth defeat in 6 games this season. Nothing much went right for the two-time champions against DC. Asked to bat first, KKR were off to a disastrous start as they lost the wickets of Litton Das, Venkatesh Iyer, and Nitish Rana inside the powerplay.

They could never recover from those setbacks and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. At one stage, the Kolkata-based outfit were reeling at 96 for 9. Andre Russell’s cameo of 38 not out then helped KKR post a respectable 127. The hard-hitting allrounder hit three back-to-back sixes in the final over to help KKR post a 120-plus total.

In reply, DC chased down the total by losing 6 wickets and with 4 balls remaining. Unlike the KKR batsmen, the bowlers did well and had DC in a spot of bother but there were not enough runs on the board to pull off a win.

Nitish Rana on loss:

Speaking at the end of the game, Nitish Rana began by saying that his team were 15-20 runs short of a winning total. He also took responsibility for the poor display on himself as he rued his early dismissal.

“I think we were 15-20 runs short on such a difficult pitch. I take the responsibility for this, I should have stood there instead of throwing my wicket away,” said Nitish Rana.

The KKR skipper was quick to point out the positives for his team as he praised the bowlers for their fighting display in the game.

“Credit to the bowlers though, I think the upcoming games will be good for us if we continue bowling and fighting like this. We were just trying to delay the outcome, but they played really well in the powerplay, that’s where they won the game. We need to play well as a team. We need to bowl like the way we did today, if we manage to sort these things out, we can fight better I guess,” said Rana.
