Delhi Capitals, on Tuesday (May 2), endured yet another poor outing with the bat in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The national capital-based outfit managed to score only a modest total of 130 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs against reigning champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner won the toss and elected to bat first but it did not take him long to regret his decision. Gujarat Titans pace spearhead Mohammed Shami wreaked havoc with the new ball to blow Delhi Capitals away.

The India star struck in his very first over to remove Philip Salt for a golden duck. In the second over, David Warner was run-out for 2 before Shami struck again in the third over to send back Rilee Rossouw for 8. And in the fifth over of the innings, Shami struck twice, dismissing Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg to leave Delhi Capitals reeling at 23 for 5.

Delhi Capitals’ unique record:

After Shami’s spell with the new ball, it looked like Delhi Capitals might not even touch the 50-run mark. However, Aman Hakim Khan’s maiden fifty and his crucial partnerships with Axar Patel and Ripal Patel helped the visitors cross the 100-run mark and post a respectable total of 130.

Axar scored 27 runs and shared a 50-run stand with Khan for the sixth wicket. On the other hand, Ripal scored 23 and shared a 53-run stand with Khan for the seventh wicket. And while Delhi Capitals did not enjoy the best of outings with the bat, they did manage to create a unique record thanks to those two fifty-plus partnerships.
