PBKS named Shikhar Dhawan as the skipper of the franchise after releasing Mayank Agarwal during the retention window. Since IPL 2020, Dhawan has been one of the most consistent Indian batters in the IPL alongside KL Rahul. One bad season in 2022 saw Mayank being released by the franchise. He scored 196 runs in 13 matches last season at an average of 16.33.

Punjab Kings in the history of IPL auctions bought some of the most popular T20 players across the globe. They paid a huge price to rope them in and were quick to release them as well. Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul are a few examples who were released by the franchise despite both of them performing consistently.

Punjab finished sixth on the points table last year winning seven and losing seven games in the league stage. They are still aiming to win their first IPL title and hence have added together a strong squad. They managed to buy Sam Curran for a whopping 18.50 crores who was the most expensive player of IPL 2023.

Bhatia is a proven all-rounder in domestic cricket with nearly 5000 first-class runs, over 3000 List-A runs and more than 2000 T20 runs.
