Punjab Kings (PBKS) bought a total of six players in the IPL 2023 auction. They had a remaining purse of 32.20 crores looking to fill up nine slots three of which were overseas players. They managed to build a squad of 22 players with over 12 crores remaining in their purse.
PBKS named Shikhar Dhawan as the skipper of the franchise after releasing Mayank Agarwal during the retention window. Since IPL 2020, Dhawan has been one of the most consistent Indian batters in the IPL alongside KL Rahul. One bad season in 2022 saw Mayank being released by the franchise. He scored 196 runs in 13 matches last season at an average of 16.33.

Punjab Kings in the history of IPL auctions bought some of the most popular T20 players across the globe. They paid a huge price to rope them in and were quick to release them as well. Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul are a few examples who were released by the franchise despite both of them performing consistently.
Punjab finished sixth on the points table last year winning seven and losing seven games in the league stage. They are still aiming to win their first IPL title and hence have added together a strong squad. They managed to buy Sam Curran for a whopping 18.50 crores who was the most expensive player of IPL 2023.

PBKS needed an Indian opener to replace Mayank, an Indian spinner with experience, and a few all-rounders in the middle order. Their batting looked stronger than their bowling with the players they retained. They could not find an Indian replacement for Mayank but in Curran and Raza have bagged o experienced international all-rounders. Punjab bought Harpreet Singh Bhatia for 40 lakhs in IPL 2023 He made his debut in the IPL in 2010 and played his last IPL season in 2012. Despite scoring tons of runs in domestic cricket, he never got an opportunity to play for India. He is from Madhya Pradesh and has played for KKR and Pune Warriors in the IPL previously. Bhatia is a proven all-rounder in domestic cricket with nearly 5000 first-class runs, over 3000 List-A runs and more than 2000 T20 runs. However, with a power-packed Punjab side, he might not get a game in this IPL season.
