Heading into the IPL 2023 auction, RR needed all-rounders with James Neesham and Daryl Mitchell being released. They also need a good quality Indian pacer to pair alongside Navdeep Saini and Prasidh Krishna. Like all the franchises they also had eyes on Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Cameron Green for filling up the all-rounder’s slot. They had a pretty solid first XI and needed overall backups.Â

Joe Root
Joe Root was one of their last-minute buys in the IPL auction. Root is out of England’s white-ball plans at the moment not having picked for the ODI series against South Africa. Root has scored 214 runs in five games striking at over 130. However, in a team with a settled batting line, up the former England skipper might find it difficult to break through.Â
