After the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, all eyes will shift to the IPL 2023 auction. The BCCI has already set a date of December 16 for all teams to submit their list of released and retained players.
While all the top international players are currently busy in the ICC T20 World Cup, the IPL franchises are making their penultimate preparations regarding the list of players for the IPL 2023 auctions. Let’s take a look at 3 New Zealand players who can cause a bidding war in the upcoming IPL 2023 edition.
IPL 2023 Auction: 3 New Zealand Who Will Cause A Bidding War Based on T20 World Cup 2022 Performance
Glenn Phillips
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) didn’t use the services of Glenn Phillips even once in the entire Tata IPL 2022. The kiwi middle-order batter was unavailable for the initial few matches of the tournament due to Covid-related issues.
It was impossible for SRH to fit Glenn Phillips in the playing XI whilst the presence of Kane Williamson, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, and Marco Jansen, it would be a futile call to retain the New Zealand cricketer for the upcoming edition. But he is giving the franchise to re-think with his power-packed performance in T20 World Cup 2022. Glenn Phillips is currently the sixth-highest run-scorer in the tournament and the leading run-scorer for the Kiwis with 178 runs to his name.
Trent Boult
Trent Boult’s ability to capture wickets in Powerplays impressed in the IPL 2022 Trent Boult collected 16 wickets in 16 games, averaging 30.75 runs per over and a run rate of fewer than 8 runs per over.
In the ongoing World Cup, the Kiwi veteran is currently the top wicket-taker for his side with six scalps to his name. Seeing his performance in IPL 2022 and given his experience in the shortest format, Boult will surely be a lucrative name in the IPL 2023 auction.
Mitchell Santner
The CSK management failed to make effective use of Mitchell Santner in IPL 2022. The MS Dhoni-led side tried almost everything with him but couldn’t give him one role consistently. He walked out to bat at number 3 or number 4 in the initial few games. Later on, he was asked to bat lower down.
While Chennai Super Kings might think he is not adding value and it is about time that the team must let him walk away, the franchise might re-consider given his current form in the T20 World Cup. The 25-year-old is the joint highest wicket-taker for New Zealand alongside Trent Boult with six wickets.
