Rajasthan Royals (RR) had a remarkable Indian Premier League season in 2022, during which they featured in their first final since 2008. With captain Sanju Samson, RR finished second in the points table and overcame Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to reach their second final.
Although they came short in the finals, there are many positives they can take to the next season. Like it has happened since IPL 2008, teams will have a chance to refresh their squads, and some players might be released by their respective franchises.
While RR might not make many changes, let’s take a look at the three players who can hinder RR’s ambitions if they are retained for the upcoming edition.
IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Players If Retained By Rajasthan Royals (RR) Can Cause Much Damage Than Good
Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag did not have one of his best seasons on the batting front. He has 183 runs in 17 matches to his name for IPL 2022. Despite that, he had the team management’s full backing, and he played 17 games. However, the support did not help the former U-19 World Cup winner as he managed only one 50-plus score in the tournament.
The franchise will have to shell out the money to retain him and once again counting on the cricketer can be a costly experiment. However, if RR let him go, they can re-sign him in the IPL 2023 auction.
Devdutt Padikkal

RR has invested heavily in Devdutt Padikkal and backed him in all matches. However, the youngster did not have a great season. He managed 376 runs in 17 games. Moreover, his strike rate was low as he struck 122.88. In this regard, RR might suffer the consequences if they retain him since he did not live up to expectations and could manage only one half-century throughout the season.
James Neesham

RR bought James Neesham in the mega auction by spending INR 1.5 crores but the New Zealand all-rounder failed to feature regularly in the final eleven. Neesham got opportunities to perform in two matches for RR in the IPL 2022, but he couldn’t do justice to his role.
Keeping the Kiwi cricketer might cost Rajasthan in IPL 2023 auctions which otherwise would let the franchise pick a better substitute.
