IPL inaugural edition winner Rajasthan Royals, in IPL 2022 had a memorable campaign. Sanju Samson & co. meant business from the very first game and finished second at the end of the group stage with nine wins in 14 games. They conquered Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second qualifier to reach the Final but failed to recreate history as they lost the summit clash to Gujarat Titans.
The think tank had done a pretty good job at the mega auction 2022 to assemble a quality squad and it clearly paid dividends. However, certain personnel inclusions did not prove to be as fruitful and we might witness Rajasthan tinker with their unit and release certain players.
IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Players Which Can Be Released By Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Rassie van der Dussen
The 33-year-old did not get consistent opportunities and had to warm the bench for the majority of the season. And in the three games Rassie played in the 2022 season, he failed to set the stage ablaze with his performances. He was asked to bat at seven on one occasion which did not help his case either and the Pretoria-born ended up with 22 runs in his three outings at a strike rate of 91.67.
RR had a jam-packed middle order with the likes of Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal, and Shimron Hetmyer in the mix. The trio did a phenomenal job for the team and this meant the Proteas batter had to sit out. Therefore, RR could part ways with the veteran batter and look for better options in the forthcoming auction.
Nathan Coulter-Nile
The Australian all-rounder can bring balance to any side and this is the reason why RR added him to their side for the 15th season of the IPL. Colter-nile played Rajasthan’s first game of the season but it did not go well as he conceded 48 runs in three overs. Unfortunately, it turned out to be his last game of the season as he was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.
RR might not want to reinvest in a player who is not certain to be available for the entire season and thus Coulter-Nile’s exit from the Rajasthan Royals camp looks quite likely.
Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell has been a proven performer for New Zealand across formats. RR decided to put their money on the Kiwi player for the 2022 season. However, with Jos Buttler being sensational at the top and Shimron Hetmyer acing the role of a finisher, Mitchell could not get many games.
And in the two matches he played, the middle-order batter struggled to get going and scored 33 runs at a poor strike rate of 75.00. With top-class all-rounders like Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Chris Woakes expected to feature in the upcoming mini-auction, Rajasthan Royals might look to release Mitchell and free up an overseas slot.
