IPL 2023 Auction: Punjab Kings (PBKS) Players, Squad, Retained Players List, Released Players List, Purse Value, Schedule, Players List.  After the IPL 2022 mega auction, the cricket legends weighted Punjab Kings among the probable teams to reach the playoff and even win the IPL trophy. The reason was that they had a very good team comprising a bunch of talented utility players who could single-handedly win matches for the franchise.

But, after the IPL league stage finished, the Mayank Agarwal-led team found themselves packing their bags with just 7 wins from 14 matches, finishing the IPL 2022 points table in the 6^th position. There will be a lot of brainstorming from now leading up to the 16^th edition of the IPL. The likes of Benny Howell, Sandeep Sharma, Odean Smith, Vaibhav Arora, and even IPL 2022 skipper Mayank Agarwal were released by the franchise before IPL 2023.

Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been confirmed as the new captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise for the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Wednesday. Shikhar Dhawan, who is not a part of the Indian T20 World Cup 2022 squad and is considered an ODI specialist and ODI skipper will replace another opener Mayank Agarwal as the leader of the Punjab-based franchise in the IPL 2023.

It was all over for IPL 2022 skipper Mayank Agarwal with the side as the Punjab Kings decided to move ahead without him for the upcoming season.  Moreover, West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith, Prerak Mankad, Writtick Chatterjee and Ishan Porel are in the list of players released by the side ahead of the auction. With the removal of big names such as that of Odean Smith and Mayank Agarwal from the squad, PBKS will have INR 20 crore freed up.

Star players Jonny Bairstow and Shahrukh Khan were retained by the side, both of whom were expected to remain for the next season. The side now has three overseas slots remaining, which essentially translates to them making full use of the forthcoming auction scheduled to be held in a month’s time.

The Kings now have a lot to look forward to when they get into the auction as they still have INR 32.2 crore in their purse. The side would look to make the best use of it and have an edge over the rival sides ahead of the new season.
