The Indian Premier League (IPL) team Sunrisers Hyderabad, of whom Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi was a member until 2021, has been the subject of some shocking disclosures.

The all-rounder has spoken candidly about the culture within the squad days after going unsold at the mini-auction in Kochi. He claims that the players had lost interest in representing the franchise.

Rashid Khan and Nabi, two Afghan teammates who joined SRH in 2017, claimed that the team has suffered as a result of the franchise’s recent sudden adjustments. He emphasized how their squad composition and support staff underwent abrupt adjustments.

“When we [Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan] came to SRH in 2017, and the way we played for the next three years, the team combination and performance were the greatest, But I have no idea what happened to the team in the last two years, who did it, or why. Everything changed, from team composition to coaching staff and environment,”  Mohammad Nabi remarked to SportsYari on Tuesday, December 27.

Nabi continued by saying that rather than undertaking a comprehensive makeover, the Hyderabad-based franchise should have thought about implementing the modifications gradually. He also expressed concern with how Rashid Khan and David Warner, two of SRH’s star players, were treated.

“A franchise the caliber of SRH should consider building rather than dismantling a team. Instead of making drastic changes, they should have tried to gently establish a competent team. Rashid, who had been a brand for them for five years, was fired. Not only Rashid but also other key players. That was a mistake. I’m not sure what they wanted,” Mohammad Nabi remarked to SportsYari.

In the 2021 Indian Premier League, Warner was unceremoniously fired by SRH as captain after just six games (IPL). In the next games of the season, the team’s star hitter had trouble cracking the starting XI.

Before the major auction earlier this year, Warner was freed by the SunRisers. At the event, Delhi Capitals (DC) acquired the Australian opener for $6.25 million.
