England National Cricket Team red-ball head coach Brendon McCullum, who smashed the first-ever century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the inaugural match of the tournament itself, wants the 18-year-old leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed to bag a deal at the upcoming IPL 2023 auction.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 player auction, which will be a mini-auction, is set to be held on December 23 in Kochi. Ahmed has set his base price as INR 40 lakh for the IPL mini-auction.

Rehan Ahmed made his international debut in the third and final Test match of the series against Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team at the National Stadium in Karachi. The 18-year-old became the youngest to take a five-wicket haul on his Test debut as he finished his spell with the figures of 14.5-1-48-5 in Pakistan’s second innings. Overall, he claimed impressive figures of 7/137 on his Test debut.
Meanwhile, Brendon McCullum, who played 109 IPL matches and scored 2880 runs, has said that Ahmed being picked by an IPL franchise would be great and awesome.

“It would be great if he got picked up at the IPL. It would be awesome if he did,” McCullum told BBC’s Test Match Special on Tuesday.
I’ll encourage him to play as much franchise cricket – Brendon McCullum on Rehan Ahmed
McCullum further said that Ahmed is a “fully-fledged international cricketer” and they’ll have to look after him. The 41-year-old also said that he would encourage the young leggie to play as much franchise cricket as possible.
“Why not give him that opportunity to rub shoulders with other players and pick up those experiences? What other 18-year-old is going to get those chances? He’s a fully-fledged international cricketer. The important thing now is that we continue to look after him,” the former New Zealand skipper said.
“I’ll encourage him to play as much franchise cricket and get as many experiences around the globe and play with different players, under different coaches and in different conditions.”
