It Was Painful For Me - Kapil Dev On Fight Between Virat Kohli And Gautam Gambhir During IPL 2023

Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev opened up about the fight between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that it was painful for him to see two of his favourites behaving in such a manner.
The tiff between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq along with Gautam Gambhir is still fresh in the minds of many. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter was engaged in a heated exchange of words during the game and even after that.

Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq exchanged some words with each other on the field and then the same continued during the post-match handshakes as well. Both the players had to go at each other and were separated from their teammates.
As Virat Kohli was having a go at Naveen-ul-Haq, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir then interrupted too which saw two greats of Indian cricket getting involved in that too. They had some harsh words to say to each other and were the main talking about.
1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev finally shared his verdict on the incident and said that BCCI needs to groom players as good citizens as well. Speaking to The Week, he said:
“They (BCCI) have to groom players to be good citizens also. What happened between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli in the IPL, it was painful for me.”

Kapil Dev admitted that although sportsmen can lose their cool but it was difficult for him to understand how Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir behaved in that manner.
He elaborated: “My two most important people―Virat Kohli, one of the top batters in the world; Gambhir is now a member of Parliament―how can they behave in such a manner? But sportsmen do lose their mind, from Pelé to Don Bradman to all people.”
For their poor behaviour, the trio of Naveen-ul-Haq, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli were fined heavily by the BCCI after the game.
