Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had won the toss & opted to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). CSK had a brilliant start to the power-play overs as they scored 59 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. Ruturaj Gaikwad along with Devon Conway unleashed an attack on KKR’s bowlers. Ruturaj Gaikwad was looking in sublime touch.

KKR’s decision to make David Wiese (*included in the team in place of Litton Das) bowl in the power-play overs didn’t work well as he conceded 23 runs in his first 2 overs. Varun Chakravarthy was introduced into the 4th over but couldn’t stop the flow of runs.

CSK would be aiming to post a score in excess of 180, there are chances that dew may come into action later during the run chase. We should not forget that KKR bats very deep as any target is not safe against a quality lineup.

Suyash Sharma thrashes Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Stumps

At the end of 7 overs, CSK’s score was 72 runs for the loss of no wickets. Suyash Sharma was introduced into the attack for the 8th over, on the 3rd delivery Suyash bowled a googly as Ruturaj misread it completely as his stumps were exposed and his off-stump was uprooted. Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed on 35 runs in 20 balls as he struck 2 fours and 3 sixes.

Suyash Sharma previously in the over had bowled 2 googly deliveries to Devon Conway before Ruturaj Gaikwad’s wicket. CSK’s score at 7.3 overs was 73-1. Suyash Sharma’s 4 overs would be quite decisive in this contest.

Fascinating Action on Cards

Skipper Nitish Rana will have to use Narine, Chakravarthy & Suyash smartly as the track is assisting the spinners. It won’t be a surprise if the trio bowls the chunk of overs as CSK have got a lot of left-handed batters present in the side.

CSK on the other side would be banking on Devon Conway to stay till the end of the innings. It would be interesting to see what approach does Ajinkya Rahane applies in this phase as a run-a-ball knock won’t do any good to the team.
