The writing was very much on the wall for Punjab Kings when they began their innings as they had to chase down an improbable 258. And the task became tougher after they failed to start well with the bat. Shikhar Dhawan failed to deliver on his return and departed after scoring just 1.

The other PBKS opener Prabhsimran Singh could not get going either and returned to the pavilion after scoring just 9 to leave his side 2 down for 31 in the 4th over. It was followed by a 78-run stand between Sikandar Raza and Atharva Taide. Taide was the aggressor during the stand as he completed a 26-ball fifty.

Yash Thakur broke the stand by dismissing Raza for 36 in the 12th over. And in the very next over, Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Taide for 66 to leave PBKS 4 down for 127. The likes of Liam Livingstone (23), Sam Curran (21), and Jitesh Sharma (24) played some quick knocks but PBKS never looked in contention to chase down the total and were eventually bowled out for 201 in the final over.

PBKS vs LSG Match Report: LSG innings
Earlier in the game, Lucknow Super Giants posted their highest-ever IPL total and the second-highest total in the history of the league as they piled up 257 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. Kyle Mayers and Marcus Stoinis scored quick fifties to lead their team’s charge with the bat.
After Gurnoor Brar conceded just 2 runs in the first over, Kyle Mayers got going by smashing Arshdeep Singh for 4 boundaries in the second over. In the third over, he hit Brar for another four and a six while Rahul hit a four too as LSG raced away to 35 after 3 overs.
The openers, however, could not stitch a big partnership. Rahul welcomed Kagiso Rabada into the attack with a six in the fourth over but was out on the very next ball. The LSG skipper departed after scoring only 12. The dismissal, however, did not affect Mayers who hit Sikandar Raza for two sixes and a four in the 5th over. He raced away to fifty off just 20 balls in the sixth over before being dismissed by Rabada in the same over.

Ayush Badoni and Marcus Stoinis did not let Punjab Kings capitalise on the breakthrough as they kept playing attacking cricket. In the 8th over, the duo collected 24 runs off Brar’s over. Sam Curran was introduced into the attack in the 10th over but he could not do much either as he conceded 17 runs in his first over.
At the end of the tenth over, LSG were on 128 for 2. Both Badoni and Stoinis matched each other shot for shot as they batted LSG to a position of strength. The partnership was finally broken by Liam Livingstone in the 14th over when he dismissed Badoni.

The young batsman departed after scoring 43 off just 24 balls and adding 89 runs for the 3rd wicket with Stoinis. Badoni’s dismissal did not bring any respite for the home side as Nicholas Pooran came out all guns blazing. He started his innings by hitting Livingstone for three fours in a row. In the 16th over, Stoinis reached his fifty off 31 balls.
