Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody praised Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Sam Curran for his leadership skills during the 13-run victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, April 22. Tom Moody believes Sam Curran used his teammates rather than himself to bowl the most difficult overs of the match.
Sam Curran was named Player of the Match for his brilliant performance with the bat. The left-handed batter changed the momentum of the match with his half-century of 55 runs off 29 balls. The stand-in skipper helped the team reach a mammoth total of 214 runs on the board. However, he looked off-colour with the ball and conceded 41 runs in three overs.

Recognised That Maybe That Was Not His Night – Tom Moody
Tom Moody said that Sam Curran took the right decision not to bowl in the end overs as he was a little bit expensive with the ball. Moody said that Sam Curran showed his leadership abilities by using the resources well.
“Sam Curran felt that he was not quite on song tonight. That shows good leadership to look at the broader picture at what’s available,” Tom Moody said on ESPNcricinfo after the game.
“Sam was going nearly 14 an over so he had an expensive night with the ball, which is unusual for him and recognised that maybe that was not his night so he shared that responsibility and he had the resources to do it,” he added.

Sam Curran Is Doing It Very Very Well – Tom Moody
The former Australia all-rounder said Sam Curran did not look like a first-time captain and added that the England all-rounder handled the pressure well in the world’s biggest T20 tournament.
“Sam Curran is showing some really good leadership skills particularly for someone who has not experienced leadership before. He’s captaining a team in the IPL – the biggest T20 tournament on the planet and is doing it very very well,” Moody concluded.

Sam Curran got a chance to lead the team in the absence of regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan, who missed the matches due to injury. The 24-year-old led the Punjab Kings to two victories out of the three games he captained. The Mohali-based franchise came close to a win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The Punjab Kings climbed into fifth place in the 10-team points table. The PBKS are one of the four teams with eight points, but they had a low NRR of -0.162. The PBKS will take on the Lucknow Super Giants in their next match of the IPL 2023 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Friday, April 28.
