Former South African wicketkeeper-batsman Mark Boucher has expressed his eagerness and enthusiasm towards the new challenge ahead of his stint with the Mumbai Indians IPL team as their new head coach.

He is well aware of the team’s high standards and is looking forward to pushing the limits further. Boucher is expected to work with the team’s experienced coaching line-up, including batting coach Kieron Pollard.

Mark Boucher said that given the team’s strong performance in the competition, there are a lot of expectations for them. He emphasized the fact that MI has won the IPL title five times.

The 46-year-old stressed that he is accompanied by a superb support team and that he is looking forward to working with them, saying: “There will be expectations, absolutely there should be, and I’m looking forward to the challenge. I think that the team has been very successful over the years and you’ve got the trophies to show that as well”

“I’ll be feeding off a lot of people around me. We’ve got a fantastic support staff, but a lot of stuff out of that as well. We’ve got the scouts. There’s a lot of support for me and my job as well” Mark Boucher Added.

Mark Boucher took over as head coach of the Mumbai-based squad ahead of this year’s cash-rich tournament, succeeding Mahela Jayawardene. The former South African keeper went on to say that while he was initially worried, he is optimistic about the team’s chances, explaining:

“I must admit, I’m a little bit nervous. I think before anything new in life, you do get a little bit nervous. I’m quietly confident. I’ve seen a lot of the youth at Mumbai Indians. I came here with the scouts and we had a look at all the training sessions. So, very confident, but a little bit nervous. I just want the whole season to get underway now” Mark Boucher said In a video shared by the franchise on social media.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will kick off their IPL 2023 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday, April 2 at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
