RR vs CSK: "He Regrets It, He Says 'I Wish I Didn't Do It" - Robin Uthappa Reveals What MS Dhoni Told Him About Pitch Hijacking Act Against RR In 2019

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Robin Uthappa opened up about what MS Dhoni told him about the infamous pitch-hijacking attack against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The game between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2019 was full of drama. The match between the two heavyweights of the league went down the wire with the visitors needing 18 runs in the last 6 balls.

However, the real drama was on the offer when 8 runs were needed off the last 3 balls. Ben Stokes bowled a delivery that slipped out of his hands and was of the waist height. Umpire Ulhas Gandhe signaled the no-ball but square-leg umpire Bruce Oxenford turned down the decision and termed it a legal ball.

Seeing this, the CSK skipper was furious and stepped into the field and had a discussion with the umpires. He, however, wasn’t successful as the leg umpires stayed.

Robin Uthappa on Jio Cinema revealed that MS Dhoni talked to him about the incident and was really upset with his behavior. But mentioned that the keeper batter was angry because the call was once made and then was taken back. He elaborated:

“I spoke to him about that actually. He said to me ‘I just got out and I was really upset. I came out and stood there. I saw the straight umpire putting his hand up for the no-ball’. The straight umpire is the one who controls the game. He was like ‘Once you have called a no-ball, you can’t take it back’. In that heat of the moment, he went inside the ground. He regrets it. He says ‘I wish I didn’t do it’.”

The decision however didn’t cost CSK as Micthell Santner hit the six on the last ball to win the game for his side.

RR vs CSK: “I have never seen MS Dhoni like this,” Suresh Raina on an incident

Suresh Raina, who was part of the CSK batting lineup in that game, also opened up about the decision. He said that he was behind MS Dhoni in the dugout and was wondering where he was going. He said:

“I was sitting right behind him. I was like where is he going? I have never seen him like this.”

CSK and RR are currently playing the IPL 2023. The Sanju Samson-led side has thumped CSK once in the season and was about to defeat them for the second consecutive time.
