Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram expressed his disappointment after his team’s crushing 8-wicket loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday (May 18).

Despite SRH already being ruled out of the IPL 2023 playoffs race, the stadium was jam-packed as the fans made their presence felt. Aiden Markram and his teammates, however, once again came up with a disappointing show in the ongoing season.

Asked to bat first, the Hyderabad-based outfit scored 186 for 5 in 20 overs thanks to Heinrich Klaasen’s maiden IPL ton. The wicketkeeper-batsman smashed a 49-ball century to help his side recover from 28 for 2 and finish on a big total. However, his effort was completely overshadowed by RCB openers – Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis’ effort.

Kohli led the charge with the bat by scoring a stunning century while du Plessis scored 71. The duo added 172 runs for the first wicket to all but seal the game. In the end, the three-time IPL runner-up crossed the finishing line with 4 balls remaining.

Aiden Markram on the loss:

Speaking after the game ended, Aiden Markram started by saying that his team could have scored more in the powerplay but was still satisfied with the total. He then talked about the huge support for the teams before expressing his disappointment over not being able to give the home fans a win. He finished by praising Klaasen for his stunning knock.

“We batted pretty well. We could have found a little runs out there in the powerplay. Great contribution from Klaasen. But still was a good score. Great support for not just us but for RCB as well. We couldn’t give them a win. We all hate losing. We would be out there looking for a win,” said Aiden Markram.

“Hopefully have smiles at the end of the campaign. Great knock from Faf and Virat. We had a look at some guys moving forward. Probably one less option in the powerplay. Kartik was put under pressure.

“The plans were in place but the execution didn’t fall in place. Mayank was impressive. Special knock from Klaasen. Super happy for the guy. I don’t think he would have dreamed of getting a hundred in the IPL. Unfortunately ended in a losing cause,” he added.

Markram and his teammates would be desperate to sign off with a win. SRH will be taking on Mumbai Indians in their final league game.
