Former cricketer Aakash Chopra discussed the potential inclusion of all-rounder Shivam Dube in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Aakash Chopra stated that Shivam Dube has the opportunity to showcase his skills during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Shivam Dube will represent the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024. The left-handed batter impressed with his batting performances in the last two editions. He was also recalled to the national team following his impressive performances in the cash league.
The 30-year-old scored 289 runs in 11 innings at an impressive strike rate of 156.22 during the IPL 2022 season. The all-rounder amassed 418 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 158 in the last season. However, he did not bowl a single delivery in the previous IPL edition.
Huge Opportunity For Shivam Dube – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra said that Shivam Dube will have a chance to make it into the World Cup squad if he performs well in the IPL 2024. Chopra said that Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane have opportunities to prove themselves.
“In my opinion, it’s a huge opportunity for Shivam Dube as his name could come for the World Cup. He first scored runs for India in T20Is and then scored runs in the Ranji Trophy, and picked up wickets as well. So he has a big opportunity here,” Chopra said.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad has lost his place because of injury. It’s an opportunity for him as well for the World Cup. Ajinkya Rahane hasn’t scored runs. So it’s a big opportunity for him,” he added.
Shivam Dube scored two consecutive half-centuries during the T20 series against Afghanistan earlier this year. Dube earned the Player of the Match award in the first T20 match. He amassed 124 runs across three innings, securing the Player of the Series award.
Deepak Chahar Has Fallen Off The Radar – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra believes Deepak Chahar could stage a comeback for India by delivering strong performances for the Chennai Super Kings. Chopra noted that Chahar faced setbacks due to injuries and personal issues but now has a significant chance to shine.
“Deepak Chahar has fallen off the radar because he remained injured for some time and then wasn’t available as his father was unwell. However, now, it’s a big opportunity for him as well,” Chopra further stated.
You Can Call It A Fall From Grace – Aakash Chopra
The cricketer-turned-commentator emphasized Shardul Thakur’s chance to showcase his value following a reduction in his auction price. Chopra stated that Thakur can prove his worth with impressive performances in the upcoming season.
“Shardul Thakur – he has come down from 10-12 crores to four crores. You can call it a fall from grace in terms of the money. So he has an opportunity to show that he is still as good and deserves that money. This performance can say that, as he is coming after already performing well in the Ranji Trophy,” he concluded.
The Chennai Super Kings made notable acquisitions during the IPL 2024 auction. The team secured New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell for Rs 14 crore. Additionally, they signed young UP batsman Sameer Rizvi for Rs 8.4 crore and Shardul Thakur for Rs 4 crore.
The IPL 2024 season commences with a thrilling encounter between the defending champions and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai on March 22. The MS Dhoni-led team will face IPL 2023 runners-up Gujarat Titans (GT) in their second match at home.
