Aakash Chopra rattles MS Dhoni as he reminds the former Indian captain of CSK's misery this season

Cricket commentator Aakash Chopra has highlighted CSK’s potential weakness for IPL 2024. Aakash Chopra feels Chennai Super Kings lack depth in the spin department. He also feels that there is a lot of pressure on overseas spinners.

Ravindra Jadeja will be a crucial spinner for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024. Other spinners in the CSK squad are Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, Maheesh Theekshana, and Prashant Solanki. Ravindra Jadeja gave a marvelous performance with the ball last season.

Chennai Super Kings is set to face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2024 opener on March 22. CSK will be led by MS Dhoni once again. Last season, CSK won the trophy after defeating Gujarat Titans in the final.

There are slight concerns in the spin department: Aakash Chopra on CSK

While speaking on his YouTube channel, reputed commentator Aakash Chopra spoke about CSK’s weakness in the spin department for IPL 2024. Chopra highlighted that CSK does not have any Indian spin-bowling option.

“There are slight concerns in the spin department. They don’t have any Indian spin-bowling option, barring Ravindra Jadeja, who will play in the XI. They have Prashant Solanki but they don’t play him,” Chopra said.

Chopra also feels overseas spinners in the CSK squad will have a lot of pressure. He also noted that Jadeja’s bowling is the weakest in the T20I format.

“So there is more pressure on the overseas contingent, that they should do more spin bowling, which, in my opinion, is not the greatest of things. The best of Ravindra Jadeja comes in Test cricket. After that, ODI cricket and I keep Jadeja’s T20 bowling at the bottom in that list. Of course, the captain gets the best out of him,” the former India commentator further added.

Maheesh Theekshana is a very decent bowler: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra also added that Maheesh Theekshana and Mitchell Santner are two decent spinners for CSK. However, he doubted if the team would play Santner in every game.

“Maheesh Theekshana is a very decent bowler. MS Dhoni uses him extremely well but he is an okay bowler. Then they have an issue about whether they should play Mitchell Santner or not. They didn’t get Moeen Ali to bowl at all in the last four or five matches last year,” Aakash Chopra further added.

Ravindra Jadeja got 20 wickets last season

Spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja delivered a stunning performance last season. The left-arm spinner grabbed 20 scalps in 16 games at an economy of 7.56. The next spinner on the list was Maheesh Theekshana, who clinched 11 wickets across 13 games. Moeen Ali got 9 scalps in 11 innings.
