Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist commended legendary MS Dhoni for his impressive batting cameo during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Adam Gilchrist highlighted MS Dhoni's capacity to excel despite initial doubts regarding his form and contribution to the team.

MS Dhoni delivered a stellar cameo, scoring an unbeaten 37 runs off 16 balls for the Chennai Super Kings in an IPL 2024 clash against the Delhi Capitals. Despite his valiant effort, the Chennai-based franchise suffered a 20-run defeat in the match in Visakhapatnam on March 31.

The wicketkeeper batter stepped onto the pitch in the 17th over, when CSK needed 72 runs from 23 balls. Dhoni showed aggressive batting but lacked support from the other end. The right-handed batter remained unbeaten, smashing three maximums and four boundaries.

MS Dhoni Is The Absolute Holy Grail - Adam Gilchrist

During a conversation on the Club Prairie Fire podcast with Michael Vaughan, Adam Gilchrist referred to MS Dhoni as the "absolute holy grail" of cricket. Gilchrist stated that Dhoni turned the clock back with a stunning batting display, despite initial doubts about his form.

"Well but the thing about MS. I think he is absolutely the holy grail because he just doesn't do interviews. And never and haven't doesn't done press. Didn't do it when he was playing. No, just a blanket no," Gilchrist said.

"And what about the other day, no one was really sure what he's got left in the tank and didn't bat in the first couple of games. All being in a losing cause pulled the trigger. Turned the clock back," he continued.

Rishabh Pant Has Made A Remarkable Comeback - Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan highlighted the overshadowing of Rishabh Pant's remarkable performance by Dhoni's innings in a match where the Delhi Capitals were the home team. Vaughan emphasized Dhoni's significant influence, noting the overwhelming support for the Chennai Super Kings from the crowd.

"I reckon there's only maybe one sportsperson in the globe that's team could lose, and on the opposition was a young fella called Rishabh Pant, who has made a remarkable comeback, and it's great to see him playing, but to see him playing so well and see him play the way he did, and his team was the winning side and he was the captain, yet all the talk was about Ms' 37 off 16 deliveries. That is how powerful it is, and you have to remember Delhi Capitals; it was played at Vizag, and that was their home game, and the whole ground was yellow," Vaughan said.

MS Dhoni is anticipated to conclude his IPL campaign during the ongoing season. The 42-year-old relinquished the CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad before their first match. He will be next seen in action when CSK takes on SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday, April 5.

The team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad currently occupies the third position in the 10-team table, boasting four points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.976.
